Finding your site for the first time today, I'm touched by the history. You see, I worked at the Altec Lansing plant in Anaheim from 1968 to 1981. I still have two "Magnificents" in my living room customized with 515's & 288's, also a 729 equalizer.

Very nice website ! Well documented and interresting to read and look. It represents a nice and deserved tribute to Mr JB Lansing, without doubt a pioneer in sound reproduction. It's nice to see JBL still pursuing the same vision of perfection and creativity. The latest iteration of the S Serie, the S9800 is a resounding example of the heritage left by its founder.

I have been fasinated with the JBL sound since the 70's. I bought my first pair of L200's. My first encounter was with- then, Ms. Melody Bell (PR) of JBL. I wanted to do my own speaker designs w/ JBL componets. She supplied myself, with all the liturature to build system/blueprints. Since that day I have had dozens of Factory models and have modified them to my liking. It has been a lot of fun. My listening room now has become smaller (childern again!) is not as large with my horn loaded L300's w S-22 system. I found the L212's are a great under rated system. I have since added a second matching sub-to take the burden off both left and right signals of the mono version system. Removed the 066's and replaced with 075's. As is the mids 5-9's to the larger 5-2's. Very apealing sound with the VAC 30/30 Valve amp, CPA MKlll pre.

Your website is extremely well put together. I'm 45 and first listened to a pair of JBL's (don't know what model) around 1973. They were a floor standing model and could have been 20 years old at the time as far as I know. At 16, I was amazed at the quality of sound. I own a pair of L65's I bought at a thrift store for $25. Replaced surrounds and am impressed as I was in 1973.

Was a sound contractor for many years. Many of the JBL and Altec folks are personal friends of mine and have been for many years. Am getting now toward the end of my time, however I have made a difference with the fine products from these two companies. In 1978, I worked for a stereo shop in Tulsa, OK. I had the good fortune and good sense to purchase a pair of JBL 100's. I thought I'd never hear a better speaker. That was until 3 years ago when I decided to buy a pair of speakers for my living room. I searched the high end stores, scoured the internet and spent countless hours reading reviews of "new" speakers. It was while reading a Stereo Review, that I saw a tiny little ad for vintage JBL's. Well, good fortune struck again as I found Hal Cox and purchased a vintage pair of C-36's with LE-85's and 130's with a 1200 crossover. My wife thought I was nuts to buy such old speakers.....until I hooked them up! Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus never sounded so good! She's now my ex and I will be forever in Hal Cox's debt for selling me those amazing speakers. By the way, I still have the 100's and will never part with either pair. JBL's are the best! Thanks Hal, John

Such a wonderful site for those of us with Altec Lansing speaker systems. Also I'm in need of two of the HF horns used in Altec's 890c Bolero speaker systems.

Fantastic site! Being in the professional sound equipment sales business I used to be interested mainly in the newest equipment but I still own some vintage equipment too. It's hard to admit that 20 years ago I dumped Altec Santanas and even a whole Western Electric cinema sound system! Surely I will go to hell for that! If I only could turn back time...

Dear Sirs I loved your website! I am assembling also a ws where on chapter 7, still in preparation, I am describing "the origin of sound reproduction". It has many interesting aspects related with JBL and Klipsch. you are invited to visit it. It is not so well prepared and complete like yours. However, I think through the same we can start a muutual cooperation. If your were interested to start such a kind of mutual cooperation pls be in touch. In the same opportunity I thank you for yourn patiency in developing so well prepared pates.

A WONDERFUL Website in every way, the best of the best for honoring all the wonderful JBL and Altec stuff! I am still listening regularly to my pair of A7-500-8's, AND my JBL Hartsfields, located in the main room of my recording studio. This makes just an AMAZING surround system for movies, and musicians of course just love to jam in the immensly powerful sound field these 4 speakers can generate! Of course, we use some much more modern equipment, but that stuff just comes and goes. The old JBL and Altec stuff STAYS! Young kids are frequently just AMAZED at what they hear! Keep up the good work. Warmest regards, Don Lovett Purple Dragon Productions

I bought my pair of JBL L100's in 1978 and they are still in my living room now as the left and right speakers of my home theatre. They are still in mint condition with the only alteration being new cloth grills as the foam ones crumbled. I love my L100's and will never part with them. The sound still amazes me. I would be interested to hear from others who still own L100's.

Bought my first JBL speaker "a D130" in a Fender Single Showman amp in 1963. In 1965 built a P.A. system using two D130 and a Newcomb 100 watt tube amp. It worked wonderful. I have tried most every brand since "including E.V. made not to far from here" and have always came back to JBL. They are the best.

Hi there @ JBL: The very first pair of JBL's i owned were the L65 Jubal, brown grill. I purchased them in 1979 in Germany from the AAFES Audio photo club in Ramstein GE. I was in the ARMY. I would like to know where i may order a pair of JBL-L100.

Excellent historical perspective for someone born much after James Lansing began making loudspeakers. Keep it up.

Hi, As a teenager in the '70s my first experience with James B. Lansing's technology, other than at the local movie theatre, was with my dads "big" Heathkit Altecs. They were head and shoulders better and bigger sounding than anything my brothers and I had ever heard. Though our dad regularly played Wagner, Stravinsky and Tchikovski's 1812 overature on the units to impress his friends, us kids---to impress our friends---cranked up Beatles, Genesis and Rush's 2112 overture (whenever he was out of town of course!). The windows rattled to say the least. Over the years I have become a big fan of Lansing products and have been expanding my knowlege of Altec and JBL accordingly. I was delighted to find this site. I don't feel like such a freek anymore (a nerd mabee).

Enjoyed the site.."bumped" into it when doing a search for "Margoli" (pl. Margolis) on the website. Back in the 70's I was a bit of a hi-fi buff--used to hangout at Harvey's on W. 45th st in Manhattan. If Garry M. is still around, send my regrads. I always did like the AL and JBL speaker lines. Cheers! Jeff Margolis

Great site. Love it. Find it all. Perfect reference. I've made a donation in the past....worth it. Where else you gonna find this stuff? I just got a pair of 4530bk "scoop" cabs(empty). Oak wood veneer(very likely custom boxes made by JBL, and the original grills with cloth and frame. Don't know vintage but ser. # on one is 15219. I do have some plans for these.
