James B. Lansing Hand Written Note
(note: The date of the above memo was likely January 10 1949, As John Edwards put it- they hadn't quite yet "programmed" Jim about the new year change.)

 


The product line of JBL grew from very humble beginnings as evidenced by the above handwritten note from James B. Lansing to John Edwards. Lansing Sound was founded three years previous, with one product - the D101. When this note was written, they had just developed the 15" D130, and its 12" counterpart - the D131. As the note attests, production was small, given the concern over lots of 50 magnets

From this limited start, the product line eventually grew to include some of the most influential loudspeakers ever developed.
