Hi all I have a 2226 driver that is open circuit, the fault is between the ferule that has the tinsel wire attached and the lead in wire that is covered in black epoxy type glue, I have removed the black epoxy glue and can see the break in the lead in wire, problem is its aluminum wire and needs to be soldered, any advise on this type of soldering would be appreciated .

How that's done is a very good question.
I am hopefull someone here has ananswer and a source for the solder.

Unfortunately you need special aluminum solder/flux to repair those - it used to be available from JBL BUT somebody deemed it possibly harmful to left handed gerbils or migrating hummingbirds somewhere so it's NLA...
I did find some at a graingers and it did work but was many years ago.
The secret is to keep O2 away from the leadwire while soldering. You might be able to lay a flattened copper wire ( hammer it on a vise ) over the affected area and try soldering with a very good quality solder...
not fun.

Thanks for the input, I have ordered some solder meant for aluminum but it doesn't come with additional flux but has 2% in it, I did look at the diy forum and replicated the wire soldered to a sheet of aluminum with standard solder but had no luck with my weller soldering iron but my gas torch worked. I will keep every one updated as I go. Greg
well I struggled to get the lead wire tinned, I was able to follow the instructions found on diy and tin a piece of sheet aluminum but struggled with the small lead wire, I ended up using the same method and used a drop of oil and then scraped the oxide off through the oil and then soldered, anyway it seemed to work and I then soldered a piece of hookup wire to extend the lead wire to the ferule. I then coated with some moyen adhesive, preliminary tests are good, but I wont know for sure until it is stressed a little for an extended period of time. Greg
