D-175 / 175 / LE75 / LE175 serial numbers Part 6: The LE75
The LE75 was introduced around 1960. It did not replace the original 175 which continued to be produced.
The LE75 was labeled in two forms with discontinuous numbering:
Early form was a decal with the model number and impedance typewritten, but a printed (or ink stamped?) serial number, same decal as on some crossovers and speaker systems of the same vintage.
Note that the decal says "signature sound" not "signature speaker".
All of these that I’ve seen have the script “L” pressed into the red wax seals.
LE75 serial number 3726
LE75 serial number 3736
LE75 serial number 3779
Later form was a gold foilcal with printed model number and stamped serial number.
This form starts with the script “L” pressed into the red wax seals, but by the end of the series have “JBL” pressed into the seals
LE75 serial number 1101
LE75 serial number 1105
LE75 serial number 1277

from auction description:
These are the less common C38's from 1961 with the veneer wood and the metal feet, they are loaded with LE14a woofers and LE20 tweeters with LX8 crossovers...they are most likely entirely original and honestly show no signs of use or wear at all :) they are sometimes referred to as the "Baron".
These speakers are in amazing condition inside and out, they are from 1961 and appear to be entirely original and in nearly MINT condition!! please see picture collages below, they are very large and sound good although i did not crank them up because i only had modern equipment to test them with...
the cloth grilles have no rips or snags or pulls, the speakers themselves are amazingly flawless (no cracks on surrounds, no marks on the beautiful white surfaces at all..... the backs of them are also like new. (in the 2nd pic the one tweeter looks dirty on the back but it is not...that just shows how bad my camera is).
the cabinets are also in nearly perfect condition with NO damage except for what is noted on the 3rd pic which is a tiny surface nick and scratch and some rub marks from something white, the other one is basically flawless..... the feet are also in amazing condition and the wood where they attach is fine (they sometimes would weaken there over the years) the "rubmarks may come off easily...i did NOT clean them before i took the pics....this is just how amazing they have stayed after 45 years!
I DID NOT CLEAN THEM FOR THE PICTURES..... the cabinets are a little dusty but i did not want to make them look better than they are.... no need to really, they speak for themselves.
serial numbers on the cabinets are consecutive also and the one cab has the envelope attached to the back for the papers (i do not have the papers though).
They are huge, they are heavy..... shipping is going to be alot (2 packages with feet removed and each speaker wrapped inside a new blanket and shipped from a ups dropoff center, these are way too big for me to package here so shipping may be in excess of $150 i am guessing, any difference will be returned to high bidder.
You will NOT be dissappointed in these and may not ever find another pair in this kind of condition either, i know i was amazed when i aquired them and have been dealing in vintage audio equipment for over 10 years. good luck on these if You are bidding...the reserve is very modest for these speakers as well.

S8R in custom cabinets on ebay
Seller claims this pair of S8R systems are from 1974 and he is the original owner. (I don't think the S8R system included the 077 until the 1979 S8R-2 system that also came with LE15-H woofers.)

ALL speakers are in PERFECT WORKING condition!
These have always been in my climate controlled home (i.e. never stored and are from a smoke-free and pet-free home.
Each cabinet weighs approximately 150 lbs. and is 45” wide x 19” deep x 38” tall. – My friends often refer to these as "THE BIG KAHUNAS". The midrange dispersion lens is easily removable – as can be seen in the photo with the grill cloth removed. The lower section of the cabinet – where the bass & passive radiator are present – is air tight for proper performance. The voice coils are flat ribbon wire hand wound to get maximum density and capacity. The Alnico V magnets used in ALL the drivers produced 250% more energy than a comparable ferrite magnet. All components are precisely machined to achieve exacting sound reproduction.
The serial numbers are as follows:
Ø2-(375) midrange drivers are: 21670 & 21894
Ø2-LX5 cross over networks: 30760 & 30761
Ø2-N7000 cross over networks no serial numbers visible on outside
Ø2-077 high frequency drivers: 40156 & 30924
Getting into each lower cabinet where the LE15A bass speaker & PR15 passive radiators are located is difficult. I cannot disassemble the lower airtight cabinet without breaking seals. Each cabinet has the airtight back secured in position with 42-2" wood screws. The seam joints on the back - although a tight fit - were sealed with silicone rubber. The bass and passive radiator in each cabinet are front loaded, mounted with 8 machine screws & nuts supplied by JBL and sealed to the front baffle with the circular silicone gasket seal also supplied by JBL. I will not break these seals simply to get the serial numbers.
For years from it’s beginning through the 1970’s, JBL built what the most knowledgeable audiophiles would consider the “Rolls Royce” of speakers. JBL was used in the finest recording studios because of the truly sound reproduction. They were – and still are – some of the most efficient speakers built.
These systems – built in 1974 – are still used as beautiful pieces of furniture. The cabinets are finished in gloss black walnut stain and are on casters. The cabinets are “handed”, that is – mirror images of each other.
As the original owner of these, I’m selling them simply to downsize and give someone else the opportunity to enjoy music at it’s best. They have served me well and I would put them up against any other similar size system for performance.
