Quite right...it isn't a three-way option it's an option choice for the use of a full range driver, bass + midrange compression driver, midrange unit, etc., or the 075:
I believe that hole was for installation of an 075 tweeter to turn the design into a three-way. I would block it and see what it sounds like.
Yes...I noticed that when I had a look at the amp. The OA3 operates at 75V with a range of 5-40mA, while the OA2 operates at 150V with a range of 5-30mA. All depends on what front end circuit you...
I have an example of a tube amp design which shows the use of the 0A2 and uses 5881/6L6/6CA7, etc. It can be adapted to other types as well 6550, KT88, KT90, 6B4G. The power supply is tube...
Casters...unless you're on shag carpet, try these (get the largest size):
Heed the warnings...this used to be called "motorboating" as in a low frequency oscillation/instability in an amplifier circuit: "Putt, putt, putt, putt."
Is this a large enough sample to rule out simple unit to unit variation? As in could one observe this amount of difference between two 077's or two 2405's?
It does make sense that differing part numbers imply different parts...but it is still unclear what that difference may be? Both the LE175 and the LE85 are rated at the same continuous power of 30...
Excellent! As a start, are the 2410 and 2420 diaphragms 8 ohm or 16 ohm? Similar DCR's? Can you visually inspect the diaphragms for differences? Ideally, one would run a sweep on the two diaphragms...
Okay...I'm with you...:banghead::banghead:
If the D16R2410 can be used in an LE85/2420, how does it differ from the D16R2420? I know the LE85 has a more massive magnet assembly than the LE175 (to extend bandwidth), but are there any...
The idea AFAIK was to reduce edge diffraction of the sound waves, though this would have no effect in the lower frequencies.
Fantastic Ron! Nice cabinet, a real corker of a paint job and now that you have the leaks fixed, you should get much better bass response. ;)
Dirty connection contacts can also contribute...clean them all!
Yo Ron...have you tried to "break" in those new windows with those folded corner horns yet? :D
I would also recommend the 077/2405(H) and the N8000/3106 crossover.
Short answer: insignificant. Long answer (alnico not tested, but I would doubt much difference):
Okay, how about a note of humour...I've attached a zip file of an mp3 down-rezzed from wav to 8kbps/11KHz/mono of "Song of Reproduction". This is the audio quality possible within our file upload...
Audiophile: a person with an ardent interest in high-fidelity sound reproduction. For an excellent example of this OCD behaviour, listen to the "Song of Reproduction," from "At the Drop of a Hat" by...
For the days I'm feeling lazy and just want some background music...same reason I listen to satellite music...it's compressed and often includes some distortion, but I don't have to lift my butt off...
Ranking in audio quality on my system all using the best source material possible:
1. Linn LP12/Lingo/Ittok LVIII/Shure V15 Type VMR/NYAL Upgraded/Modified Super It
2. Linn Unidisk SC

That's the spirit! Combine the ancient and the modern: when the roots are good, the tree flourishes and the new buds are healthy.:applaud:
Listen on a really fine "archaic" system and you'll discover it's "Diana." :D
"Why is it that pre 1970 speakers so prized today ?"
I do not care one bit about what anyone else likes, however the reason I like my pre 1970 speakers is that they reproduce a most enjoyable...
