I believe that big Iwata was designed for the 3" 2490.
So - the goal is to use one horn from ~500Hz to 10KHz.
As you mention - the Yuichi 290 should be a good choice. Designing a bigger horn...
Isn't narrow dispersion a HF issue?
@Dr.db: Did you say anything about the high crossover point?
Here's a picture of an Iwata horn used from ~200Hz if I remember correctly:...
There is only one other pair starting with J1079-. They are dated 1995.
If my memory serves me right nearfield measurements should be taken at 1/2 inch (1cm).
I was using a Nelson Pass Zen 9 (F3) which is 15 watt. This amp was not the limiting part of the setup.
I have run 476Be with a series cap for protection. Cap was large enough to be outside crossover frequency.
Anyway - you do not need any high power amp for these drivers.
Registry records suggest your Paragon is from 1980 or 1981.
Now you have the link to vBulletin's forum. They have the right knowledge to give you any more than educated guesswork.
Back to your problem. Here's my 2 cents worth of guessing:

Vemodig vakkert!
Signal to noise ratio to low. Closing this thread.
The next step would be to design and build new crossovers.
Other changes are more intrusive, in which case, you could just as well start from scratch.
Close to 1975
Some amplifier design's has this turn-on thump.
A few years back I had a Norwegian amplifier with turn-on thump. The designer offered an upgrade, and when I called to make the appointment, I had...

I have run 2245's in bass reflex earlier. Had to move them ~1m out from the wall, and at least 10cm up from the floor.
Getting them right demanded a lot of measurements and moving around. The...
Do you consider 90dB slopes to protect your 2446's?
If so - I'm quite sure they will handle more than the listener.
Sound-wise - I believe more complexity will give you less details / nuances.
@Pos: Haven't tried current amp yet. It's on the ToTry list.
@NickH: The crossover uses 4-pole Sallen-Key filters. Would you like a detailed writeup on the complete crossover?
Comparing the...
The registry does not have enough drivers with date info to be of any help.

This part of my sound system journey started around 8 years ago. The old 4-ways was too constraining, being a single box. I also wanted to move away from passive crossover, because it changes with...
In my experience new surrounds will give you functional drivers. Recone gives you new drivers.
For critical listening the best choice will be recone.
Good luck.

You could just add a resistor in series with the driver. 4-8 Ohm should get you close.
