Was the port different too? It looks like if it's removeable.
By the way, I listened to both versions, the original "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" from the 1968 "Electric Ladyland" album and the SRV version from the 1984 "Couldn't Stand the Weather" album.
The...

I think this is mostly due to coloration and inexperienced listeners who look for a specific effect, like boomy bass or punchy bass or forward midrange. I think the perfect speaker should be able to...
Well, that's what I meant basically, and I just realize now that it's in fact a stereo pair in a monolithic enclosure so it makes more sense.
Cool.
This is really a weird design, it goes against every fiber of my body screaming "Comb filtering!"
I always assumed the handwritten numbers reflected the DCR among other things, the weight is possible also.
Ok, gotcha. You're referring to half space, quarter space, eighth space speaker placement? I never heard about a crossover compensation for that except on some amplified studio monitors, but usually...
Kind of funny and sad at the same time, having to refoam a recone kit...
Good eyes indeed, I didn't see that.
However I have originals E-140 frames here and they don't have that half-moon shape around the mounting holes... Actualy it's the first time I notice those.
At first glance they look legit...
Check through the hole if the old foam filter has been removed, should have been replaced by another material, or just left open so you see the inside of the...
I have to ask... and maybe I'll regret it but, what is BSC?
Thanks Earl K. I read the thread "the purpose of E145" this morning before posting and I don't think I saw that info, I must confess that I read it in diagonal ;)
So a gap of 15.2mm and for the 2234...
I don't know what it has been reconed with, but that surround is like nothing I saw in JBL so far AFAICR. Very weird.
I would be curious to have a measurement of the top plate thickness of the...
Very nice woodworking, congratulations!
I really love the jig you made for the horns.
Yup, what he said :-D
True! Before having the 2202s in my 4520 stack (avatar) I had B&C 12PE32 in them, very pleasing as well and very dynamic for mid-bass.
If you can put your hand on a set of 2202s, I highly recommend them!
I used 2119 and 2118 in the past and they were also sounding good, although they don't have as extended a range as the 2202 IMHO.
Not all capacitors fail! Good thing, because a lot of the stuff from the 70's, 60's and even 50's would be going to the dumpster.
I repair old ham radios from the 80s and 70s (just after the tube...
FWIW, I have built something based on the 4345 using 2202h and different combination of woofers and HF drivers and horns, but after a bit of tweaking they sound very good and I love them.
I used a...
What are you trying to achieve?
It'll probably work, but as far as predict the result, I'm not sure about that.
If you would have wanted to replace the surround of a 2240 with the surround of a...
About those "Devialet Phantoms"... are they really that incredible? The reviews are flattering but reviews are reviews, I would be curious to hear the opinion of somebody who actually heard good...
I second the rotten foam and it's something I do automatically on ALL the drivers of this series.
You can look with a flashlight through the grill if the foam is still intact or disintegrating.

Really? I always thought it was the way to go, gold plated and all the bells and whistles...
I use speakon and solder, which is probably frowned upon in the audiophile community :applaud:.
Well, no. The 2225 has the same material former as the E140 (Kapton?) I've reconed enough to know that, no offense.
I think the only difference between the E140 and the 2225 is a longer voice coil...
