Yes, he is THE guy. There are differences in foam available.
I have used several from him, including the 116H...and they work, and sound great.
EXACTLY as the originals in size.
Long time, no post!
I have a pair of pristine early 80's 2245H woofers that need to be refoamed.
I have the foam, done smaller woofers before, not these.
I don't have the time, and I want it...
Never did hear the 250's. Hope I am not blocked from PM's??? Haven't been on here for quite some time, busy with work and band/sound shows, new fiance, etc. Pete
Seawolf, my messages to you aren't going through...??? Have a happy holiday and enjoy the sunshine we are having! Pete
I have had a pair of 4406 in my office for years. I had a pair of 4401 before that.
The 4401 has a punchier midbass, but that's about it...because of the paper cone. (only has midbass...they drop...
I had a mint pair of these same vintage 4315's....I too found the 2105 more than a bit shouty and harsh...no offence to anyone...but it was a marked improvement to upgrade with a newer ceramic...
Do a search for these on here...there is a ton of reading here about this subject...
Very similar design, except for a few crossover parts differences, and a different tweeter, that give the 4313B a...

It only takes overnight to remedy that situation a half dozen times:p

Better is a relative word...in what way? Dynamic range? Output level? Power handling?
All of the bigger 43XX play louder than the 4301B. But in my experience, whatever it's worth, the 4301B is a...
Just trying to help. I know the subject has been discussed ad nauseum on here before....but not the differences in surround pliability or thickness.
I sure found out how good the little 4301's...
Not all foam surrounds are created equal...
Just a heads up to anyone on here considering buying surrounds....
USE RICK COBB...
Why?
I have a mint pair of 4301B's, that had new surrounds...
My feelings exactly. I have three of them....in three different systems.
There are several older JBL designs that could use improvememnt with modern technology....this isn't one of them, IMHO.
I don't think one could "improve" one of the best woofers ever made for deep bass, or a cabinet built by JBL. If you want to improve the BX63 crossovers that go with them, PM me, I have done several,...
The bolt on throats on the original 2344's I had were cast metal....
The origonal 2344 had a 4 bolt metal flange, and molded plastic horn. I had a pair in the early 80's....
I would opt for the "A" because the flanges didn't really fit perfectly, or line up with the...
I used 2226's extensively for live sound years ago...they were in 4.5 cu ft boxes tuned to 40 hz. They were great for midbass up to 500 hz or so.
I noticed at the time that they lack visceral slam,...
Yes, I had some custom built 4530's in the late 70's, with 2225's in them.
I grew out of them fairly quickly as I soon missed the low bass, as well as a fairly pronounced drop in response around...
From a neighbor in Oregon....gorgeous work. Someday.....when my youngest is older, I want to get in the woodshop again like the old days....and produce some artwork with the beautiful JBL drivers....
Bigger is louder, but not always tighter, or faster sounding, IME.
That was my experience back in the day, too.
I think speakerdave gave an excellent answer already. The drivers are...
Way more than $150 for a JBL factory cone job. The kit, not including labor is over $200 last I knew...
If you do the foam, get ahold of Rick Cobb on this forum. Do a search. He includes a 30hz tone...
One of the complaints I heard back in the day from pro sound company guys, is that the biradials with the slot sound fine until you pour the juice to them, then they sounded muddled. For live or high...
Without a known design to copy, or the test equipment to design a new network....Stick with the active....a lot easier to dial in.
Since I can't read the Jap text, I don't know if they are JBL, or another manufacturer...I would assume, since this method of tweeter placement is so popular there, and the fact that it says "JBL" on...
I was noodling around on some Japanese sites and found these....thought I would share.
