I bought a pair of JBL Lancer 33's at a yard sale. Does anyone know anything about them? Also, does anyone know how to get the grills off? I would appreciate any advice.

They are from the mid to early 60's. Each cabinet should contain one LE8T 8" full range driver. The rubber surrounds on the LE8T's will likely have dried out and hardened over time. They will need to be carefully softened with brake fluid or replaced. I believe the grilles are held on by metal fasters that press into the wood grille frame. They should pull right off. If they are in nice shape they are something worth having.

I managed to pry the grills off and you were right about the drivers. The surrounds are intact but dried out with some cracks. They sure sound good though.
Here are some threads with suggestions:

This is not an endorsement of this method, just something for you to consider.

Out.
They sound even better with the newer C8RLE8T recone kits. Recharge the motors before reconing.Originally Posted by dbxluver
