thats a piece of quality machinery! ive had 2 myself...i used to record cd:s to it (2 tracks & 38cm/s) and then listen. what a difference!
the expression "they dont make em like that any more" fits perfectly here.
Hi Figge
I tryed the same thing with my Teac A-6100 MKII at 38 cms (15 IPS) half track. It sounded great.

Hi WHEJ4312
Is that a Marantz 500 power amp you have? If it is, it's a valuable amp. There were not to many 500's produced before Marantz began production of the 500M series.
Ron
Teac:s are wellmade machines too...same for Tandberg (norwegian)...awesome buildquality on these recorders! beats the hell out of any cd-player (imo)

Hi whej4312
I bought my Marantz 300DC in 1978 when the 510M was available. Your 500 my go back to 1973/74. Anyway, you can check its value at classic-audio.com. Enjoy
P.S. Don't sell it!
Ron
I bought a brand new Marantz 510 (without meters) as a close out for $430 in 1978. I also picked up a 3800 preamp. I never cared for the preamp, but that was a fine amp! It is one of those, I should have kept it pieces. A couple of years ago I had an opportunity to buy a 500 for cheap. It worked well, but was cosmetically less than perfect. I also thought the loudspeaker connections on the front of the amp were a bit awkward.
I assume the 500 is a bass brute. Do you use it for full bandwidth?

My experience with the 500 has been an awkward one. First,it is a '74 vintage and factory stock. It was a little on the edgey side with a huge bass hump at about 60-70 hz originally. Great for slow poke speakers. The mod that was done, brought out the "Soul of Saul" so to speak. Speed, depth, and an f****** midrange people with Louther horns or 801's would kill for. The 'ol girl is fickle on occasion and sometimes the left meter sticks, but when she's right, mamasita, she cooks. I use the back speaker output's, so I can leave the rare center cover in place. makes her look prettier in all silver and blue. If you want to hear JBL's the way they were intended, the 500 is the one, except save an ML30, or a Coda 100. My friend's Krell has some serious ponies, and a bottom end punch that will make a 2245 humble or you sterile, but that's another story!! I had a pair of beloved L112's years ago( should've never sold them) and that my friends was a combo to die for.... I miss those days so very much.....
