D130 Recone Kit?

You should ask the seller... since he's so sure they will be better than OEM JBL kits.

The whole idea of product evolution is to improve the original....which the E130 does in every way....including opening the gap for the new coil.

Are you saying if I had E130 re-cones Edgewound-installed on my 52-year-old D130s I would enjoy them even more than I have over the past 52-years of my life?

I can't guarantee you're happiness...which depends on so many physiological variables at any given moment, but...

Why recone a speaker that's working and you're enjoying? If it stops working, then by all means recone it with OEM parts.

To give you a taste of better enjoyment through product advancement, stick a used E130 in there and try it....or find a nice K130 or D130F frame(alnico and recharge) and recone with E130 parts.

If you don't like it for whatever reason...that's purely your business.

Are you saying that maybe that "high" point reached in the '70s with my D130s might require the same wacky tabacky to make an E130 recone sound as fine? Any excuse for a party.

Thanks for the suggestions. Maybe I'll try that, just for grins, after I satisfy my 43xx four-way itch and take the 030s out of daily living-room use. Right now my ancient 030s are probably in better shape than my ancient ears! In my small living room, they ARE surround-sound speakers. Rock on!

I would suspect that the 16-ohm version of the N2400 would not have the correct coil inductance for an 8-ohm E130 driver.
But, it would be a very simple problem to fix.
Just swap out the coil and any other parts on an as needed basis and you should be good to go.

Thanks. I remember that thread well. Very nice work. It's on my to-do list but then I did pickup a nice pair of Crown VFX2As a year or so ago from a list member that are just sitting here staring at me. Figured I might just bi-amp the 030s for fun, too. My thoughts were a DC300A-II for the D130s and a D150A-II for the 075s. But I also have one LE175DLH so if I can find another for a decent price, the pair of Crown crossovers might really come in handy.

Thanks...I'll send him a query. I'm using the D130 in a back-loaded folded corner horn. Does the E130 have similar parameters, e.g., sensitivity, fs, rising response curve, as the D130? I don't want any higher sensitivity as my left channel uses a D131 in a slightly smaller (but identical design) cabinet and I find no real problem with the slightly more sensitive D130...but any higher might result in an imbalance.

Using a lower impedance driver will drop the response curve of the the LF section of the crossover. The D130 has a 16-ohm impedance...at least the ones I have do.

Well, the DC resistance is 6.5 ohms...the 16 ohm (AC impedance) version. I'm not sure if JBL made 8 ohm D130's?

The 1976 component catalog in the LH library shows the D130 as an 8-ohm speaker. Same in the 1969 catalog. Same in '67. From 1964-back they're shown as 16-ohm.

Right...got it. So, both 8 & 16 ohm versions are 8 ohms. Anybody ever do an impedance sweep on the D130 or D131?
