    Question Yet Another 511B ?

I have been a lurker on this forum for years and I finally have a question for you Altec gurus. Just to let you know my experience with Altec is unfortunately minimal. I've heard a couple systems here and there and seen pieces in audio museums but that is all. I am definately a horn fan.

A good friend has loaned me 511B horns and 902-8 Great Plains Audio drivers. I don't think he is getting them back whether I use them on this or another project.

Do you think this combo is good from 600 crossed very steep and running out to its upper limits? My hearing starts crapping out a little past 16khz. I'm also not a super tweeter fan. Eventually I will cross at 800 with second order xover but that is down the road abit. I am just starting out on a project and if I can get by without a tweeter that would be wonderful. The specs look great and the horn sounds great but I was wondering what your real world experience says.

    Thanks

I've used the 511-902 combo and I think it sounds great. I used many horns over the years and the 511 was one of my favorites, better sounding IMO than Edgar saladbowls and various EV, McCauley, PAudio and JBL horns I used. And 902s are great sounding drivers, I listen to them on 811s every day.

Of course you have to judge for yourself but I think you're on the right track.

Zilch, Thanks fascinating thread. It is abit over my head in spots but very good.

Tom, I was wondering if this combo was just too good to be true. If there were any issues I guessed this would be the place to find ou.

I may need another pair of these

    Thanks
