Costs of bringing 4343 drivers to factory spec

    Well, it's not cheap!

These are the prices JBL recently charged for recone or new diaphragms and remagnetization.

    2 x 2405 $314
    2 x 2420 $601 (new dampener pad - 2421 diaphragm)
    2 x 2121 $517
    2 x 2231A $365 (2235 cone kit)
Shipping $180 (to JBL, depends on distance)

    $1977 total

An alternative is to replace the 2231A's with 2235H's and to pad the woofer down by 1dB to match the different sensitivity. Ian reminded me about this. The 2235H's at $382/pair street price are essentially the same cost as 2231A recones and remags and raises the power capacity. The specs for 2231A are 100w and 2235H 300w - don't know what the specs for the hybrid would be.

    John

PS - see subsequent commentary on "padding"
