    Mixed Emotions...

Well, this was an interesting evening.

I went out to grab a bite for dinner, and on the way back, decided to wander through a local thrift store. I didn't really see anything in the normal areas I check there, and was just about to leave, when something in one of the "work carts" (the carts where they bring stuff out from the back) caught my eye.

    HOLY COW...

But, there was good news... and bad news.

The good news? It was a JBL L80T... 10" 3-way tower cabinet, with the 127H-1, 104H-2 and 035Ti. I've always wanted a pair of those, since I sold them new, at work, back in about 1988. One of the absolutely best-balanced-sounding JBL systems of all time, IMHO, with fantastic midrange detail and linearity.

The bad news? There was only ONE of them. I asked the guy bringing out gear, to check in the back, but alas, there was not another one to be found anywhere.

Why does fate torture me like this?

Needless to say, I'll be dropping by that store as often as possible, for the next few days... just on the off-chance the mate is hidden under something, waiting to be found...

    Regards,
    Gordon.

I found the other one at the Salvation Army in Healdsburg two years ago. I ended up parting it out on eBay, I got more than 200 for the parts.

I bought a Paragon from a guy in Florida who found it at Salvation Army... Beat up Bad woofers but everything else was OK. I paid him a fair price but I think he only paid $100 - $150 for it.

    It's all better now.

Went back this morning, and whuddya know... there was the other one!

    MINE MINE MINE

The veneer isn't perfect on either one, but otherwise, they're in good shape. Of course, the woofers need refoaming... gee, wonder who I'll get to do that?

    Regards,
    Gordon.

Try the guy on that yammerfest AudioKarma.
He'll slather silicone all over the surrounds for you and you'll never know the difference.
There's also a 3M scotch tape guy on eBay that knows how to fix surrounds.

Guido, I already had it... but thanks anyhow! There may be someone else out there looking for this manual... I'm starting to see more and more people running across these things these days...

Giskard, I got it- I'll let that guy who "fixed" those Bose 901 surrounds with huge gobs of white caulk, do the 127H-1s!! It'll be sweet, d00d!!!!!!!!

    Regards,
    Gordon.
