I was thinking of trying a Crown XLS 2500 on the JBL 1400s they cross at 160hz and 800hz.

I find that the JBL 1400s take a bit of driving only (89 db efficient) the M80 is 250W 8 ohm. Trying to replace it with a modern amp with the same power is just not a cost option hence my need for opinions on the Crown Amplifiers.
I have been informed that this amplifier summs the output at low frequency settings can anyone confirm?
If so that would mean buying two and running in mono mode!

Measurements of a Crown XLS 1502 here: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/f...1502-amp.6062/
It is a stereo amp with spec'd crosstalk > 85 dB at 1 kHz. It can be bridged for mono operation. The amp in stereo mode does not sum the output at low frequencies. From the manual:
    Amp Mode
The AMP MODE menu is used to select one of three amplifier modes available in your XLS amplifier. The factory default is set to STEREO mode. In STEREO mode, Channel1 and Channel 2 both function as independent amplifiers...

I have one in my system and can confirm, in stereo mode, does not sum at low frequencies.

Thanks for that. Another post on DIYAUDIO claimed it summed the Channels when set low.
