    A takeoff on jblnut's idea...

    Qoute from jblnut...

"I don't know how or where JBL ever got such a bad rap, but I'm a one man re-education force in the NorthEast working to change that..."

I agree, so I'm doing something about that too here on the west coast. I'm going to be loaning out a pair of L-110's and a moderate size Sansui vintage reciever to one of my younger coworkers. Many of the under-30 crowd have never experienced the joy of having a fine pair of JBL's in the living room. I want to change that and as I find responsible and worthy recipients, those $20 garage sale and somewhat ugly little L-110's will be pumping their fine sonic signature out and hopefully, the uncurable addiction will start.

I've been happily addicted for over 30 years! And I still spread the word whenever I can...

    JBL Advocacy

Whenever I get the chance, I get people I know to come over to hear the Performance Series in action. Usually they start out wanting to see a video of some sort because of the 96" wide screen on the wall, but after some video-enhanced booms, bangs, twangs, and screeches, I turn off the PJ and move on to the music.

When their full attention is on the JBLs, that's when the Ti shines. First the visual striptease of the grilles coming off and the naked Ti underneath. Next the urge to feel the eight-sided enclosure (allowed) and fondle the Ti inverted domes (NOT allowed--Hey! Watch yer f'in hands!). Then the smell: that's right, put your nose up close and take a whiff of Ti, rubber, vinyl, and MDF--Yes, that's sweet!

Finally the hearing, with some jazz, followed by classical, followed by vocal, followed by a dance track, followed by Smoke on the Water (live).

Unfortunately, given the Performance Series' price and scarcity, most won't be purchasing it, but a quick tour of the house to include the other resident JBLs quickly leads them to believe that JBL makes a bunch of damn good speakers. When they get to the L100 shrine, and I tell the stories surrounding their 35 year history with me, then they say, "Oh yeah, I've heard of those," and something clicks. THAT JBL, huh? Even if they go to BB and get some E Series gear, they're in the family, probably for good...

...Especially if they want to keep hanging with me.
    Out.

    Pretty racy there!

Ti's passionate review of his system has just earned this thread an "PG-13" rating by the MPAA! Please do not let children under the age of 13 read the above review as the excitement may just be too much. (I'll admit it, I stuck my whole arm in the bass port on my L-300's and massaged the mid-range magnet)

I've got plenty of Sansui but no JBL, only Altec coming soon. The Altecs I had (somebody said they were "Coronas" that I transplanted, but one tweeter died so I put in Jensens) were sweet though and that's why I had to find and fix my own. The single LE8 I had needed foaming badly so I sold it to someone and reused the cabs for another project that will use Brand P speakers for my Brand P stuff.

I've seen that done on a PORN site.
    4406, 4412A, L100, L100t3 (3 pair), L1, L7, 4645C, 4660A, 4695B, SR4735 and various DIY JBL Pro loaded systems.

Regis, be sure to do this correctly. Once the arm is inserted search for the magic "M" spot on the mid-range. Once found, apply pressure upward with even smooth strokes. If done sucessfully the Mid-range will emit a low humm - something like a moan, once this happens , stroke faster. After some time a loud pop will emit from the tweeter.

    Question Anyone remember this?

Seems like I read a post on another forum about an L300 purchaser who had a strange clumping sound in the cabinet and intermittent drop outs in the midrange. Inside he found a withered arm that looked like it had been gnawn (sp? gnawed) off at the shoulder. The middle finger had a Turkish love ring attached to it that was irretrievably snarled in the speaker connectors, and occasionally both terminals would arc across the ring.

Weird. This guy NEVER bought another JBL. (ergo: back on thread )
    Out.
