Hi All;

Barry.
If we knew what the hell we were doing, we wouldn't call it research would we.
I'm only able to access the forum maybe for an hour per day. This is the first access I've had today.
Moving the site from the original servers to the new servers caused some issues.
Folks are working to sort out the issues with the forum, but there were some unexpected health issues with the previous owner and one of the new owners.
Having strokes makes all kinds of things very difficult to complete, since personal health care winds up being the top priority.
Plus - the vBulletin folks wanted to see an actual bill of sale or some such before a planned upgrade could occur,
when the site transfer had been basically a gentleman's agreement.
Yes, its a royal pain the way things have gone - but the folks involved are doing the best they can to preserve the site and not lose the valuable info contained within.
FWIW, I am not doing the upgrade or any of that, just a long term fan of both sites, sharing info as its been explained to me.

Hi Heather,
I understand that the best made plan can sometimes not turn out the way it was intended.
But to be clear the preserved content being of Don’s research and the history of JBL is un effected by the recent data base issue. Robert has declared he has the information saved on disk.
So to respond to saving valuable information that is not the consequence of the problem.
The issue of concern is that of the functionality the interactive forum where members exchange and share information.
It’s the forum members that are the ‘client’ who are being inconvenienced.
Very few threads with the exception of the reference threads you were involved with are sticky’s that remain visible. All the other threads are long beneath the current threads. Do new members go searching for those threads? Invariably no they don’t. They are the same questions over and over again.
I would suggest that members who have searched and found old threads interest have saved them. I know people who have contacted me have saved the threads l was involved with.
The information in the technical reference threads can easily be saved and most members have already done this. Don hasn’t appeared on the forum for years.
Looking at AK there has been significant efforts made to upgrade the interactive threads over the past few years. But efforts have been made to maintain the interactive forums on the LHS. It would therefore appear having analysed the above that the stakeholders narrative is at best confused. What’s the longer term future for LHS interactive forums? This us the question that needs a solid explanation.
Yep, I recently explained that the Lansing History pages, (aka, the Library), are intact, since they are NOT part of the database driven forum.
Otherwise, I have repeatedly explained that everyone involved want to carry the site forward with no loss of forum data.
People are doing the good works behind the scenes as best they are able.
The best I can say is be patient since it will take whatever it takes to be completed.
If the site has value to you, the Ak folks could probably use some contributions to help with expenses, since bandwidth, server space, and software upgrades do cost money.

My thanks to all involved, hopefully the issues will be corrected.
Guys, honest question - is there any way to snapshot the whole forum and archive it somewhere safe? It would've been a massive loss if all this infomation here gets lost because of some server/DB crash. The errors have been very concerning the last few days, the forum hasn't been accessible for me most of the time.
Any decent site has regular data backups. I'm sure the AK folks' server farm gets backed up regularly.
What you see when the site is "unavailable" is a temporary condition due to it being an old, unstable version of vBulletin.
The server gets locked up, not "missing."
On Sunday, Mrs Grumpy told me "this morning I paid for the license transfer from Don.
vBulletin should be contacting me soon with the information needed to register."
So even during the holiday weekend the AK people are doing their best to move things forward.
