Alternative to foam suspension for JBL 2231h

I need to recone two JBL 2231h woofers. I would like to know if there is an alternative to foam suspension (plastic, rubber or canvas) for this woofer because it is too fragile. I don't care if the speaker characteristics change a little. Of course the rest of the kit remains unchanged. Giuseppe

You are in luck… member 1audiohack has experimented with some rubber surrounds and I believe had reasonably encouraging results.

No one really knows if the characteristics will change a little or more... For sure driver compliance will be different, probably stiffer, which may affect other things.

Some aftermarket speaker part dealers sell cloth surrounds, e.g. Speaker Exchange. I know because i have their listing for this and others, and a member i know did surround replacement with theirs for some driver(s).

The one for 2205 or 2225 for example only might physically fit on your drivers but you need to check with the seller to make sure.

Yes there big problems here these days ( the website is under the equivalent of an attack by the Empires Death-Star ).
