Lionel Hampton

Acquired "The Platinum Collection: 40 Great Tracks", imported from England. One disk is entitled "Flying Home," which showcases Hampton's work with big bands, the other is entitled "Hot Mallets" which is, in my opinion, the better of the two, and centers on his work in small groups. Hampton is THE master of an instrument (the vibes) not heard so much today, but which is like no other. These tracks are not digitally remastered, just repackaged, but the playing is, as always, just great.

yeah, just got the new Remastered (stereo-cd) version of that, as well as Rubber Soul, Revolver, Magical Mystery Tour, and Past Masters (1 & 2).

The discs and music sound exceptional - crisp and clean- tho I've so far, only played them on the L200-plus system, and not on the biamped 4 ways downstairs ... quite a treat - can't wait until I have more time to appreciate them!

Anybody else taken any of these new reissues out for a drive?

I picked them up as FLACs (FLAX ??) ....sound very fine....with all the buzz abt the mono versions, I was somewhat disappointed in those.

I have been tuning my "new" JBL Floor Monitors and have been using Metallica's "Black Album", as my guide. Hey I am a rocker at heart and event though this is Heavy Metal I really like the in your face the sound Enter Sandman sounds through 4 JBL 2214H's being driven by a SAE 2401.

My wife got me the full-tilt boxed set. I too was anticipating a "better" version of the earlier albums, but there's a disclaimer--the earlier stuff was primarily mixed for mono, the dominant medium of the time, so all the instruments were mixed down to one track, the vocals to the other. The result is that the "stereo" versions of these albums is STILL ridiculous, so I just punch the "mono" button for listening to them.

Coolness .... what with the watching the Stax Volt Review in Norway, 1967 (a Netflix DVD), I ran across this ...

Booker T. and the MGs - McLemore Avenue

Odd, quirky, but ultimately just plain fun takes on the Abbey Road tracks ...

Yep, picked up Abbey Road, Pepper and Let It Be the 1st day the remasters were available. Stunning, hearing it for the first time, especially Paul's bass and Ringo's drums.

Grabbed the Mono box set on the 2nd round from Amazon a couple of weeks ago.
